Project name: Leucobacter sp. TV5
Description: Diverse bacteria under stress conditions produce polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) as intracellular storage granules. The synthesis, accumulation and recovery of these biopolyesters have attracted high biotechnological interest in recent years (e.g., PHA-based bioplastics). However, some PHA producers can be facultative human pathogens, which can give rise to concern.Recently, we isolated PHA-producing bacterial strains from a sequencing batch reactor (SRB) for the production of PHAs at pilot-scale (ResUrbis Project; http://www.resurbis.eu). This study reports on the genome sequence analysis for the strain designed TV5, which was found to belong to Leucobacter of the family Microbacteriaceae (Actinobacteria). From the genomic data of Leucobacter sp. TV5 we detected genes involved in the production of PHAs, which may provide new insight to improve the ongoing research on PHA biosynthesis. The costs for the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) were supported by INAIL-DIT (PAR 2016-2018).
