Project name: Amphibalanus amphitrite

Description: The barnacle Balanus amphitrite is a model organism to investigate the pelago-benthic transition in marine invertebrates. However, the paucity of genetic information for this species is hindering advances in understanding the molecular mechanism regulating settlement. In order to facilitate gene discovery, three normalised EST libraries were generated for the life cycle stages: nauplius (a mix of instars I and II), cyprid and adult. The three libraries were sequenced independently using 454 titanium technologies and 575,666 reads were generated.
