Project name: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2
Description: The goal of this study was to identify SARS-CoV-2 RNA in the cerebrospinal fluid of COVID-19 patients with neurological symptoms. In this study, we also performed two SARS-CoV-2 RT-qPCR assays, and did not identify virus by this method. We additionally performed unbiased metagenomic sequencing to provide further evidence that virus was not present (this method enables identification of viral RNA even if there are mutations in the region that the RT-qPCR assay targets, or sample degradation). We also sought to identify reads from other neuropathogens that might be coinfecting patients with COVID-19, contributing to neurological symptoms and disease state.
