Project name: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2
Description: Part of a larger surveillance of acute febrile illness (AFI) in Peru to understand the etiology of AFI across diverse contexts in South America and contribute to global strategies that improve etiology-specific disease estimates to inform public health practice and policy. The project involves integrated surveillance of family members for acute SARS-CoV-2 infection, pre-existing immunity, and immune conversion over a 28-day period as a manner by which to determine rates of transmission in this context and combine these assessments of ongoing transmission with longitudinal surveillance of wastewater from standardized collection points. All SARS-CoV-2 sequences are to characterize circulating variants and document their relative virulence and transmissibility within Iquitos, Peru.
