Project name: Bipolaris maydis strain:BM1
Description: Southern corn leaf blight (SCLB) caused by Bipolaris maydis is one of the important leaf diseases on corn plants. The disease will not only reduce the yield of corn, but also reduce the quality of the grain. The disease often causes problems in tropical and subtropical corn growing areas in the southeastern United States and parts of Asia and Africa. The disease is particularly serious in humid regions of the world, and can cause nearly 70% of production losses. B. maydis is an ascomycete fungus that can produce toxins that attack mitochondria and weaken the ability of plants to obtain energy. Here, we describe the improved genome assembly of B. maydis with fewer contigs, which will be helpful for understanding the molecular mechanism of the pathogen's infection and cultivating resistant varieties against the pathogen.
