Project name: Plasmodium vivax Mauritania I
Description: This strain was acquired by a traveler to this West African country. Since P. vivax occurs rather infrequently in West Africa due to the lack of the Duffy antigen in most of the population, the isolate is a rare example of an African P. vivax strain occuring among West Africans with Berber and Arab genetic backgrounds. Thus, generating its sequence is of high importance.
