Description: This strain was recently isolated from a patient who had traveled to Brazil and whose subsequent malaria illness, diagnosed in Florida and verified as P. vivax, failed to be radically cured by primaquine at the standard dose of 15 mg base daily for 14 days; it is thus considered to be highly resistant to this drug. Nonetheless, it is chloroquine sensitive.
