Description: The endophytic strain Stenotrophomonas sp. 169 was isolated from a field-grown hybrid poplar clone. Inoculation of poplar plants with this strain resulted in a significant increase of root and sprout weight under in vitro and greenhouse conditions. Further analyses indicated that the strain is able to synthesize the phytohormone auxin (indole acetic acid).
