Project name: Streptococcus sp. GS001

Description: A gram-positive, aerobic, white pigmented, alpha-haemolytic bacterium was isolated from a blood culture of a hospitalized patient. Analysis based on 16S RNA sequencing found that the isolate belonged to the Streptococcus mitis group. Phylogenetic analysis based on whole genome sequencing indicated that the isolate comprised a previously unidentified species of Streptococcus. We propose therefore the name of Streptococcus rhodensis sp. nov.
