Description: These are the results of the first whole genome sequencing project in strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo).This member of the Mediterranean natural flora is a very important fruit tree crop in the Algarve region, Portugal, for the production of an expensive distillate called "aguardente de medronho". The fruits are also used for the production of jams, preserves, etc. The improvement of the fruits, particularly increasing firmness and shelf life will allow their wide commercialization and consumption.
