Project name: Megachile rotundata
Description: The alfalfa leafcutting bee, Megachile rotundata, was exposed to constant low temperatures and a fluctuating thermal regime during interrupted pupae development to determine the transcriptional response to fluctuating versus static temperatures. Fluctuating temperatures increase survival and longevity during cold storage and prevent some sublethal effects that lower quality and likely affect fitness and pollination activity. The objective of this study was to identify genes in the short-term response to a warm pulse that affect membrane fluidity, oxidative stress, antifreeze proteins, and ion balance.
