Project name: Ceratitis capitata
Description: High Throughput sequencing (HTS) techniques have led to an explosive increase of research studying the gut microbiome of insect. However, because of this rapid increase, many different sample processing protocols are used. This is also the case for the Mediterranean fruit fly, one of the most notorious pest species in many regions across the world. The goal of this study is to evaluate the effect of sample preservation and manipulation on gut microbiome profiles obtained from HTS study of C. capitata individuals. This will increase our understanding of methodology used to study the gut microbiome of C. capitata, and by extension all insects.
