Description: Bacillus endophthalmitis is a devastating malignant eye infection that rapidly causes blindness. Here, we presented genome of three Bacillus intraocular isolates, including a novel strain that cause retinal damage, and determined pathogenicity in a mouse model of endophthalmitis. Incorporating 173 publicly available genomes for Bacillus spp., we revealed convergent evolution of virulence genes in Bacillus endophthalmitis, and identified the accessory genes plcA-2, InhA-4 and InhA-5 associated with virulence traits by pangenome-wide association study
