Project name: Paraclostridium bifermentans strain:Cbm
Description: New biological insecticides with different mode of actions are needed in order to broaden the range of susceptibility and also to avoid mosquito resistance to presently used biologicals. In our work, we compared the toxicities of two Clostridium bifermentans mosquitocidal strains and Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis against Aedes aegypti, Anopheles gambiae and An. stephensi. In order to identify the toxic components, we sequenced the genome of the Cb mosquitocidal strains. Our sequencing data showed that Cb mosquitocidal strains contain a megaplasmid pClosMP, that has two toxin loci.
