Description: The objective of this study was to obtain stress-induced patterns of gene expression and select attractive candidate genes related to drought resistance in C.tinctorius. In the present study, we characterized the complete transcriptional changes in leaves of Carthamus tinctorius under drought stress induced by PEG8000 treatment were characterized with Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencing platform. The safflower transcriptomes were analysed on leaves after 6 and 24h of stress induction, and a non-stressed group as a treatment control. This work represents the most detailed transcriptomic description of safflower under water stress condition, up-to-date. We are providing a comprehensive catalog of up and down-regulated genes to aid in systematically understanding the mechanisms of drought stress response, which could elucidate the potential molecular mechanisms involved in drought tolerance of C. tinctorius , and facilitate to develop stress-tolerant crops using drought-tolerancerelevant genes in C. tinctorius through genetic manipulation.
