Project name: Gordonia alkanivorans strain:YC-RL2
Description: Gordonia alkanivorans strain YC-RL2 was isolated from petroleum-contaminated soil and could utilize environmental hormone Di(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) as a sole carbon source for growth. The environmental factors which might affect the degrading process were optimized and the strain showed superior halotolerance. This work has been published in current microbiology journal (doi: 10.1007/s00284-016-1159-9) and Acta Microbiologica sinica(http://dx.doi.org/10.13343/j.cnki.wsxb.20170142). Strain YC-RL2 showed an outstanding ability to degrade phthalate esters and therefore genome sequencing would enable further investigation into the degradation mechanisms. Secondly, members of genus Gordonia have recently gained attention due their ability to degrade various xenobiotics. Genome information would thus enable further investigation into the degrading potential of strain YC-RL2.
