Description: Biuret is a commonly used non-protein nitrogen (NPN) source for ruminants and is found at appreciable levels in urea-based fertilizers. In order to understand the pathway(s) responsible for biuret catabolism and concomitant liberation of ammonia in soils, we sequenced and assembled a draft genome for Herbaspirillum sp. BH-1, a beta-proteobacterium isolated from biuret-treated soil with biuret as the sole nitrogen source.
