Project name: Plasmodium vivax
Description: To rigorously assess the extent of chloroquine resistance in Cambodia, we enrolled 40 vivax malaria patients and, after supervised treatment, followed them for two months, with frequent clinical examination and capillary blood collection for microscopy, molecular parasite detection and genotyping, and drug concentration measure. We controlled for reinfection by relocating half of the patients to a no-transmission area for the study duration. High-throughput genotyping at 128 selected SNPs was attempted on all blood samples positive for P. vivax, and high coverage whole genome sequencing performed on all samples at enrollment and, for a subset of them, when parasites reoccur after treatment.
