Description: The superabundant cassava whitefly Bemisia tabaci transmit viruses that affect about half of all cassava plants in Africa and result in annual production losses of more than $US 1 billion. We sequenced and de novo assembled the genome of the cassava whitefly Bemisia tabaci Sub-Saharan Africa 1 (SSA1), which will serve as a valuable resource to facilitate whitefly research and developing strategies to control cassava diseases spread by whitefly.
