Project name: Bacillota
Description: Collection of plasmids and other isolates from Firmicutes. The aim of this effort was to expand the understanding of horizontal gene transfer in Staphylococcus aureus, a major primary pathogen in community and hospital settings by sequencing 100 distinct large, conjugative plasmids from key groups of staphylococci. Of particular interest, is the emerging phenomenon of community-acquired-methicillin-resistant S. aureus (CA-MRSA) a cause of life-threatening infections in otherwise healthy adults. Plasmid DNA was isolated using selective approaches, samples were prepared using a high-throughput library preparation process, sequenced and then assembled using a plasmid specific assembly pipeline.
