Project name: Nicotiana tabacum strain:Hicks Broadleaf

Description: Philip Morris USA has funded a Tobacco Genome Initiative project. This is a collaboration between the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, North Carolina and Orion Genomics, St. Louis, Mo. The intention is to sequence the gene-space of Nicotiana tabacum because the genome is approximately 4.5 billion bp, 1.5 times the size of the human genome. A library of methyl-filtered genomic DNA has been prepared and sequenced. The resulting GSS sequences have been deposited in GenBank.
