Project name: Azospirillum sp.
Description: Azospirillum sp. starins TSA6c, TSH7, TSH 20, TSH58, TSH64, TSH100, TSO5, TSO22-1, and TSO25-2 are denitrifiers isolated from rice paddy soils in Tokyo, Japan. Azospirillum brasilense Sp 7, which is a type strain (JCM 1224 = ATCC 29145), was originally isolated from Digitaria decumbent roots in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They carry nirK nitrite reductase gene, a key denitrification functional gene, and nifH, a key enzyme for N2 fixation. Comparative genome analysis among these strains as well as other Azospirillim strains will provide us insights into the evolution of this agriculturally-important microorganisms.
