Project name: Metarhizium robertsii ARSEF 2575
Description: The insect pathogen Metarhizium is a valuable organism for studying themolecular basis of adaptive evolution. Closely related populations ofthese fungi have independently specialized to specific hosts, or havebecome broad spectrum generalists, providing multiple opportunities tostudy the functional basis for transitions between lifestyles. To examinethe mechanisms by which novel pathogens emerge we are sequencing thegenomes and transcriptomes of pathogenically distinct Metarhizium strainsthat will allow hypothesis-driven mechanistic experiments with candidategenes to unravel the genetic circuitry that regulates and executesinfection processes, specificity and host switching.
