Description: The Acai fruit (Euterpe oleracea) is a staple of the populace in eastern Amazonia, Brazil. Its pulp is usually extracted and consumed raw and contains a rich microbiota which may be of potential benefit to humans and agriculture. We have isolated and sequenced the genome of a strain of Lactococcus lactis (AI06) from Acai pulp. This species has known probiotic properties and may contribute to the known benefits of acai consumption in natura.
