Description: The sequencing of the Amycolatopsis mediterranei HP-130 led to an improved rifamycin B producer and to define a series of genomic manipulations that constitutes a rational strategy to genetically engineer reference strains into overproducers. This approach takes advantage of low cost genomic sequencing and has recently been applied with success to other antibiotic fermentations leading to the identification of new molecular targets for accelerated strain improvement by genetic engineering
