Project name: Lactobacillus plantarum
Description: Glycocin F is a di-glycosylated 43-amino acid bacteriocin produced by the gram positive bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum KW30 that causes bacteriostasis in several potentially pathogenic bacteria including Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pyogenes and some Enterococcus species. The genomes of Lactobacillus plantarum ATCC 8014 and Lactobacillus plantarum subsp. plantarum ATCC 14917 and multiple Glycocin F resistant mutants of these two strains were sequenced by the Illumina MiSeq™ System. Each genome was assembled using Velvet (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/~zerbino/velvet/) and the contigs annotated by PROKKA (http://www.vicbioinformatics.com/). The genomes of the Glycocin F resistant strains were comparatively analysed to the respective Glycocin F sensitive wildtype strain to identify changes consistent with increased resistance to Glycocin F.
