Project name: mine drainage metagenome
Description: This project focused on studying the diversity of acidophilic biofilm communities by targeting deep pools of rRNA gene sequences; and on investigating changes in gene expression of community members as biofilms mature. Total RNA was extracted from biofilm communities from four locations within the Richmond Mine (Iron Mountain, CA), and from three bioreactor-grown biofilms inoculated with samples from the Richmond Mine. RNA was converted to cDNA, fragmented and sequenced using the Illumina GAII and HiSeq platforms.
