Project name: Strigamia maritima
Description: A draft assembly of the Strigamia maritima genome sequence is expected. This project is part of a sequencing proposal submitted by an international consortium of universities and whose goal is to better understand evolutionary relationships within the Ecdysozoa. This in turn, should improve the understanding of the evolution and function of genes present in other organisms, including humans. The strategy proposed is to generate a BAC library for this species and to end-sequence it to high coverage. The S. maritima genome sequencing project will take place at the Human Genome Sequencing Center, Baylor College of Medicine.
