Project name: Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. pectinolytica 34mel
Description: The 34mel is the type strain of Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. pectinolytica. It is an extremophile isolated from the heavily polluted Matanza river near the central district of Buenos Aires city, Argentina. It produces abundant extracellular melanin. It degrades polypectate, an unusual feature among Aeromonas species. It is highly resistant to several heavy metals such as mercury, lead and cadmium. It also displays resistance to several antibiotics.
