Project name: Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri str. GM12
Description: Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri str. GM12. This strain, clone tetM-lacZ, is a large colony type. The organism was originally isolated by Al DaMassa. The authors obtained this predecessorof the sequenced organism from Dr. Mary Brown at the University ofFlorida. The sequenced strain was modified by the insertion of an oriCplasmid near the genome origin of replication. The plasmid contained thefollowing genes: tetracycline resistance marker, beta-galactosidase,ampicillin resistance marker, a second copy of the M. mycoides dnaAgene, and a fragment of the M. mycoides dnaN. Organism wasrecently renamed from Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides largecolony type to Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies capri. The J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) used it as a donor genome in the firstdemonstration of bacterial genome transplantation.
