Project name: Sinorhizobium meliloti 2011
Description: The genome and transcriptome of the nitrogen fixing bacterium Sinorhizobium meliloti strain 2011 were sequenced using second generation sequencing technologies. The genome sequence of S. meliloti 2011 was then annotated using EuGene-P, a new prokaryotic genome annotation tool able to integrate high throughput data including oriented RNA-Seq directly into the prediction process. This enables the automated prediction of coding sequences (CDSs) but also of untranslated regions (UTRs), transcription start sites (TSSs) and non-coding RNA (included antisense RNA) genes. The automated annotation was submitted to manual curation leading to the final annotation of 6,335 CDSs together with 2,868 5’UTRs and 3,808 3’UTRs, 1,880 non-coding RNAs, 54 tRNAs and 9 rRNAs.
