Description: The family Pleosporaceae, represents a group of diverse plant pathogens, and also includes saprobic taxa. Sequencing the proposed Cochliobolus genomes will strengthen comparative genomic approaches. Through sequencing efforts, the individual biology of these additional Cochliobolus species will be better understood so that breeders can make a more informed decision about the deployment of resistance. The advanced knowledge of pathogenesis will serve to enhance breeding efforts.
