Project name: Zea mays
Description: A preliminary report about the corn and rice genomes, despite differing chromosome numbers, demonstrated local synteny between the organisms. This report also suggests that the corn genome contained two copies for many probes found once in other cereals and the molecular evolution studies suggesting that Oryza is an early diverging lineage, These suggestoins led to an effort to generate a dense genetic map for Oryza sativa and Zea mays with a common set of RFLP probes. This project is the corn map. This map has been "published" four times - once in a peer-reviewed journal, once as a personal communication to RiceGenes (a defunct rice-centric MOD), and two separate times as personal communication to MaizeDB (subsumed in MaizeGDB). Each subsequent "publication" contains some additional map loci.
