Description: The ~200 Mb honey bee genome was sequenced by the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM-HGSC) using a whole genome shotgun (WGS) approach. The sequence, assembly and analysis of the honey bee genome by the Honeybee Genome Sequencing Consortium was published in Nature in October of 2006. Subsequent revisions to the assembly have incorporated Sanger, 454, and SOLiD sequencing and improvements to the linkage map.
