Project name: Gluconobacter frateurii NRIC 0228
Description: Acetic acid bacteria are microbes which perform oxidative fermentation for ATP acquisition. This property is applied to various industrial uses such as vinegar production. In spite of the importance of these bacteria, classification of them is presently confused because of their genetic instability. The only way to dissolve this problem is considered to introduce a new analyzing method based on genomic information to classification methodology. For this purpose, genome information of many kinds of acetic acid bacteria is required, and that of this strain is among the targets. The goal of this project is to determine genome sequences of all strains included in acetic acid bacteria, and propose more accurate phylogeny/ biological relationship of these bacteria on the basis of the genome information.
