Description: We have developed a biotechnological method of producing glyceric acid (GA) from glycerol using acetic acid bacteria. Among the acetic acid bacteria tested, Gluconobacter frateurii NBRC 103465 is the best GA producer with a productivity of 136 g L-1 in 17% (w/v) glycerol. The genome sequence of this strain will provide the molecular-level insight into the efficient production of GA.
