Project name: Solanum lycopersicum strain:Micro-Tom
Description: Genomic DNA isolated from 1-month-old Micro-Tom leaves. The tomato is a model plant for the Solanaceae species and for studying fruit development and plant diversification and is thus expected to be a next-generation model plant following Arabidopsis and rice. The NBRP Tomato core facility program focuses on the development of bio-resources using Micro-Tom, a model cultivar of tomato genomics. Micro-Tom is a member of the Solanum lycopersicum species, whose genome draft sequence was obtained using cultivar Heinz 1706. Micro-Tom genome sequence will facilitate the development of a number of DNA markers by comparison with the Heinz 1706 genome, and accelerate the elucidation of genes responsible for phenotypic and metabolic changes by using NBRP tomato bio-resources.
