EEF2 eukaryotic translation elongation factor 2 [ Homo sapiens (human) ]
Source: NCBI Gene (ID 1938)
Symbol: EEF2
Full name: eukaryotic translation elongation factor 2
Gene type: protein coding
RefSeq status: REVIEWED
Organism: Homo sapiens
Also known as: EEF-2; EF-2; EF2; SCA26
Summary: This gene encodes a member of the GTP-binding translation elongation factor family. This protein is an essential factor for protein synthesis. It promotes the GTP-dependent translocation of the nascent protein chain from the A-site to the P-site of the ribosome. This protein is completely inactivated by EF-2 kinase phosporylation. Expression: Ubiquitous expression in ovary (RPKM 918.2), thyroid (RPKM 609.1) and 25 other tissues
Orthologs: mouse
Gene size: 9408bp
Exon count: 15
