Project name: Aspergillus tubingensis strain:WU-2223L
Description: Citric acid is industrially produced by the fungi belonging to Aspergillus Section Nigri. Recently, the strains of Aspergillus Section Nigri have been reclassified based on genomic analysis, and especially some strains, which were formerly identified as A. niger, have been reclassified into other species in Section Nigri. Strain WU-2223L (NBRC 111403) is a hyperproducer of citric acid, and was formerly classified as A. niger by the previous classification criteria. However, based on genomic analysis and according to the recent classification criteria, strain WU-2223L has been reidentified as A. tubingensis. In this study, we present a draft genome sequence of A. tubingensis WU-2223L to provide a new insight for understanding the mechanism of citric acid production.
