VAST: Vascular Aging Single-cell Transcriptomics
vast

Macrovascular aging is not only a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, but also closely related to various disorders. Yet, little is known about the heterogeneity of aging between arteries and veins. Here, we construct a comprehensive single-cell transcriptomic atlas of the major arteries and veins in mice and humans across age and gender. We profile 261,963 cells from aorta, aortic arch, inferior vena cava and hepatic portal vein in mice and 191,510 cells from abdominal aorta and inferior vena cava in humans, and discovery distinct gene signatures and networks specific to different vessel types, ages and genders. Our study provides a critical resource for understanding macrovascular aging and important clues to the treatment of age-associated disorders.
