Description: This study investigates the global transcriptional response of Streptococcus pneumoniae D39V (serotype 2 strain) to human blood components and CSF acquired from discarded and anonymized patient samples.Overall design: D39V wild type inoculated in triplicates in CDM (control), CDM with 20 % plasma, CDM with 20 % heat-inactivated plasma, CDM with 20 % RBC suspension, and CDM with 20 % CSF, and grown for 15 or 45 minutes before RNA extraction.
