Project name: Rhodnius prolixus isolate:Brain
Description: Triatomines are hematophagous insects, vectors of Chagas disease. Besides Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiological agent of Chagas disease, triatomines of Rhodnius spp species can also infect and transmit Trypanosoma rangeli. The trypanosome-triatomine interaction has been studied in different triatomine species, including an additional focus on Rhodnius prolixus interacting with the two parasites. However, is crucial to understand the molecular mechanisms that modulate the interaction processes between triatomine and vector, especially T. rangeli-Rhodnius once this combination causes strong effects on the insect. The study aims to conduct a functional genomic study based on a differential gene expression analysis of Rhodnius prolixus genes upon chronic infection with T. rangeli.
