Description: Myocoptes musculinus is a common ectoparasite of wild mice and occasionally found on laboratory mice. Infections in laboratory mice are often subclinical but can cause severe dermatitis. More importantly, however, infections can cause unwanted immunological effects that may alter research outcomes, and most animal facilities strive to prevent or eliminate the presence of mites from research mouse colonies.
