Project name: Pseudomonas sp. R62
Description: Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) strains R62 and R81 were isolated and characterized as part of the Indo-Swiss Collaboration in Biotechnology (ISCB). Results from field experiments in India have shown a considerable potential of these two strains to act as "bio-fertilizers" for wheat crops grown in indo-gangetic plains. In the context of this ISCB project, the laboratory of Thomas Boller, a member of the Zürich-Basel Plant Science Center (PSC), plants to obtain the full-genome sequence ot the two bacterial strains. This will allow us to draw a detailed genetic map and to select highly reliable molecular makers for qualitative and quantitative assessment of the persistence of these bacteria in field situations.
