Project name: Avena atlantica x Avena hirtula
Description: Avena sativa is a hexaploid (2n = 6x = 42) oat species with a genome of about 11000 Mbp. The genome consists of three basic subgenomes, A, C, and D each of which contains seven pairs of chromosomes. The A and the D subgenomes are highly related while the C subgenome is more distant. Following the precedent with Triticum aestivum, developing a genetic map for the polyploid includes developing genetic maps for each of the component genomes. Both Avena atlantica and Avena hirtula have A genomes.
