Description: Streptococcus pneumoniae is responsible for deadly meningitis, diagnosed at the point-of-care. Improving the rapidity and the reliability of the metagenomic process, we developed an innovative protocol for the direct diagnosis of S. pneumoniae meningitis offering all the pathogen genetic information in less than 2 hours. Using Oxford Nanopore Technology, we identified 92.5% of the Streptococcus pneumoniae genome by real-time whole genome sequencing directly from the cerebrospinal fluid collected in a patient with meningitis
