Project name: Mycoplasma haemofelis Ohio2
Description: Mycoplasma haemofelis Ohio2. Organisms were harvested from blood of an experimentally infected cat. This organism has been widely studied due to its role as a primary veterinary pathogen, cofactor in the pathogenesis of retroviral and other diseases, and its propensity to establish chronic infection despite antibiotic treatment. It might also have a role as a zoonotic agent, especially in immunocompromised patients. Despite numerous attempts, in vitro culture of M. haemofelis has not been achieved. The Ohio2 strain of M. haemofelis, a well-characterized strain that is pathogenic to the host, was harvested from the blood of an experimentally infected cat and used for this genomic sequencing project.
