Description: Gibberella circinata (asexual state: Fusarium circinatum) with synonym Fusarium subglutinans f. sp. pini is an important pathogen of pine trees and infects only Pinus spp.. It is the causal agent of Pine pitch canker. The fungus is soil- and seed bourne and frequently causes damping-off of Pine seedlings in nurseries. However, branches and stems of any age may also be infected producing cankers and dieback.
