Project name: Neurospora intermedia
Description: Neurospora intermedia is a model fungus used for investigating speciation. The fungus resides in the soil as heat-resistant dormant ascospores. After a fire, chemicals are released into the soil from burnt substrates which activate these spores. The ascospores colonize the burnt substrate and after invasive mycelium growth it produces copious amounts of bright orange-coloured macroconidia.
