Project name: Sordaria macrospora
Description: Sordaria macrospora is a homothallic ascomycete that is used as a model organism for studying the stages of meiosis, recombination and chromosome behavior. The fungus produce an abundance of fruiting bodies and ascospores. The ascospores are arranged in a linear order which allows for easy detection of pre- or post-segregation of allelic pairs. Ascospore-color mutations are used to recognize recombination events.
